No she's not a member of my family or my in-laws she is a hurricane currently beating the living sh-t out of the Bahamas... and since her path is basically to run up the eastern seaboard starting with South Carolina Nana in her wisdom of not wanting to be cooped up with a 4 year old and her mother in hotel room for the weekend -- cancelled our beach reservation.
They are still coming to Bubba and Aunt Ing's B&B but we don't have surf, sand and sun to distract us - so Aunt Ing in full Type A mode is planning our weekend... mostly around what we are going to eat for dinner but hey a girl has to start somewhere..
I think Friday we will do DC seeing the kid friendly stuff the other two nieces enjoyed, and putz around, get home when we want and sticking to recent tradition - I do believe Italian dinner would be in order.
Saturday I have found Color me mine the paint your own ceramic place... fun for kids and a cool place to walk around and enjoy. I will also look around for something else to do as that may move to Sunday as there is NO WAY in heaven we are going into the city on the weekend - BIG unveiling this weekend with the president in attendance - OMG so not dealing with that mess. Plus I want to make reservations for the place the other girls liked where they cook in front of you we'll see how niece M handles that - oh I know she won't eat the veggies... but she'll like the steak part.
So we'll get that all set - invite Bubba to dinner - maybe as he gets home from Atlanta and is expecting a nice quiet weekend to himself - sucker... ha ha ha..
Now --- about yesterday Tuesday August 23rd... a bit before 2:00 PM EST... our hero, as she is want to do on a regular basis during her day was emptying her bladder, finishing up, washing her hands and suddenly the old government building she was in began to shake - then it REALLY began to shake. The woman in there with me; looked at me, and I at her we were both thinking -- holy crap the building is coming down and we said "We've got to get out of this building!" As we ran for the stairwell -- well I was going for my purse you want to be identified when the building comes down the normally calm, mellow, gun toting, security force comes over our loud speaker in a VERY stressed voice and says (and I do quote) "This is not a Drill - evacuate the building!" Didn't have to tell me twice I was on my way - pink organizer and purse in hand. (remember type A - wasn't about to leave the day planner behind)
Now once out in said parking lot away from the building - we get cell phones, turn on car radios and learn -- not a bomb -- not just our building--- an EARTHQUAKE - in freaking Virginia! That apparently danced all they way to NYC and beyond. SERIOUSLY??? This is why I don't live in the land of fruit and nuts - all that shaking makes people crazy. To say I was a bit flipped out was a MASSIVE understatement... we stood out in the parking lot for almost an hour - a lot of folks just got in their cars and went home, I saw from our parking lot that there was a huge backup and there was simply no point in my getting in my car and sitting there. I went back into my office - stepping gingerly as well let's just say the knees were still not in full lock position yet... Jello has more support than my legs did -- until I rolled out of bed this morning! I left work about 5:00 talked to Nana on my way home, got home sat outside with the pups - who were fascinated with the backyard last night - the shaking must have rumbled some new dirt or something... then went inside over ate well because that is how I handle stress... and went to bed and died.
I did talk to my brother who is vacationing in Irene's path - and he said when they were watching that coverage they noted the earthquake coverage and thought he would check in... laugh it up funny boy it wasn't funny... oh sure 24 hours out you can make jokes when you run into the woman again in the ladies room (and introduce yourselves - NO not kidding her name is Melanie and she's very nice) but hours after event --- no not so funny. What I also hate is the fact I am not good in a crisis... cripes I really needed last night to just mellow out!! And I did.
Bubba of course is in Atlanta - missed the whole thing. Which got me thinking as much as I enjoy him traveling have sole control of the remote and that whole no cooking dinner thing... he was gone during the 100 year snow storms 2 years ago... now an earthquake first in 100 years.. and where is he?!?? GONE! Screw this - I will cook - Bubba stay the heck home - and now for the first time in 3 years the east coast is getting threatened by a major hurricane.... Nana - Sis - we are going to church on Sunday... and watch THAT crumble around me.. yeesh.
I wonder can you buy holy water on the Internet - maybe I'll carry it around - just in case you know like a chest thump to the big guy upstairs -- you and me God! Right!
(And have you looked in the bottom of that arc?!)
Oh heck with it - where is my hand basket and my sun screen?? (think about it gang)
