Mix that all together and you've got yourself on heck of a weekend. Mom and I knocked off 2 bottles of wine Saturday night - hey we didn't have anywhere to go. We made our way to my brother's house for the birthday extravaganza also known as niece#2's 3rd birthday. Now one thing I can say about western PA and major snow - the government trucks are as slow as the ones here in MD - but! the little side roads and back ways - were CLEANER than the major roads ... NOT something than happens here in Mary-land. Not nearly enough good ol' boys in MD as there are in Western PA - plows on the front of your pickup and gee doggie you're good to go... I digress.
So we made our way... carefully - enjoyed a bit of nosh and listened as my brother detailed his culinary skills as he prepped for his daughter's party - then he took heat from his sweet-tooth filled family when he covered her cake in FONDANT! OMG - seriously? Butter cream you idiot. Fondant sucks. I don't care if its marshmallow or pillow- mellow fondant sucks. Then for a real poke in the eye Darling Dad decided to stop for GOOD ice cream - and they were closed.... wa wa wa.... stuff happens.
On the total upside - Nana cooked and it was good... and I didn't have to do it.
I will also say that Nana was a happy drunk Saturday night - we laughed and joked and enjoyed being stuck where we were...
Sunday was also the morning the second big dig - without the blower.. my truck. Out front, covered in 2 feet of snow - what joy what bliss... Dad helped A LOT, we got it cleaned off, dug out and went back into the house... much to the chagrin of the 2 cars that kept circling the block waiting for me to pull out... bwaa ha ha ha - it's empty now. I didn't ask how long the spot stayed clear after I left this morning...
Now leaving the warm and tended nest of the parents... it was very sad but it had to be done - back to being a grown up (Which sucks btw). Got the car loaded up, started up and the defrosters going. Pulled out without trouble, did a 3 point turn in about 6 repositions and headed out only to be stuck by trucks and earth movers - moving snow... so back up take another route... stuck again. But this truck pulled out - so did we and off I went... slowly.
Filled the tank with gas hit main road and it was smooth sailing all the way from 15 minutes outside of town to 1 minute from the house, with one brief potty stop for me and the pups, and one brief stop for snow removal equipment on 270 Southbound - and boy did that come up quick! Surprise 1 lane - yes a few foot ball words were uttered.
And pulled into home - with a lovely dry, clean driveway and sidewalk - and boy to do I have to do something NICE for the kid next door. There is 3 feet of snow on either side of that driveway. I had to come home and dig out the back steps - I couldn't see up and over the snow from my back door... but I dug out a path and some grassy patches - so the girls can have ground upon which to - ah - you know.
I have also determined that going home to PA was the right decision - not only did I get to enjoy the sugar powered ear splitting noise that is a 3 year old's birthday party, but I would be nuts on a cracker with a side of crazy when I heard the report that I would be forced to spend another 2 days at home alone... oh yeah total right decision to spend time with people. oh yeah.
And now I sit here listening to the latest weather report - another foot of snow - coming tomorrow. Pray for me for I will never see green grass again.
On a really funny final note - Bubba's car is sitting at the airport - under what will be something near 4 feet of snow... oh yeah that's funny. Have fun digging out of that one - butthead.
No I'm not bitter why do you ask?
