Daily Drama?

I have worked at Large Nameless Company for almost 15 years and in the past 30 days I have called the help desk more than the last 14.75 years combined. Granted I have a new toy which had to be configured, locked down, and registered with big brother @ Large Nameless Company. Which ironically is the IT help email address with the additional .com of course.

So today being Thursday I know my laptop of indeterminate age is going to puke electrons because it ate VPN yesterday (i.e. we worked from home) generally one to two reboots later it happily sucks Large Nameless Company's electrons again. This Thursday after 3 reboots unplugging the network cable, checking with the guy down the hall my laptop is still not talking to the network. So... for the upteemth time this month I call the help desk, walk through some config this and renew that and still zippo my call has been sent to the local guys who have to go flip a switch. Now as I'm in early this morning I wonder how long I'm going to have to wait for said switch flipping.

I've read the Express I picked up at breakfast and here I sit (then) handwriting my daily thoughts. Target is dangerously close and in another 10 minutes I'm going to buy reading material. Staring at beige walls even those covered with Russell Crowe movie posters is only good for 30-60 minutes tops, plus there is that whole napping at work thing....

So 2 more phone calls, config this IP address that, and wha-la I'm back in the land of on line. Thank goodness, it's so hard to look busy without an Internet to surf... plus I've got to get back on the job hunting.

Oh and I have to call the help desk again today my new toy is on the fritz again... I sure hope I don't hit the Large Nameless Corporation's help desk call limit. Then again that might be fun so when my computer barfs again I can sit and read the paper until my help center number is reset.. yeah yeah just wishful thinking.
